Foot and ankle strength is of vital importance to runners for both running economy and injury prevention. Shorter ground contact time means better running economy and better performance. The stronger our feet and ankles are, the better control of the foot we will have and thus better running economy. There is also evidence that, as we age, achilles and calf injuries tend to increase compared to injuries of the hip and upper leg area. We can help mitigate these injuries by strengthening our feet and ankles.
